Ingredients:
- Fresh coffee beans or finely ground coffee
- Filtered water
Equipment:
- Stovetop espresso maker (Moka pot)
- Gas or electric stove
- Spoon
- Coffee grinder (optional)
- Grind Your Coffee:
- Start by grinding your coffee beans. Aim for an espresso-level grind, which is very fine. Alternatively, you can use pre-ground coffee like Café Bustelo.
- Add Water to the Bottom:
- Pour water into the bottom chamber of the Moka pot, filling it up to the overflow line.
- Pack Coffee into the Filter:
- Using a spoon, pack the finely ground coffee into the metal filter. Fill it fully and level.
- Place the filter into the bottom compartment, above the water.
- Assemble and Heat:
- Screw the Moka pot together tightly.
- Place the assembled pot on a stove burner over high heat.
- Wait for Boiling:
- Wait a few minutes while the water boils. You’ll hear steam moving through the pot when it reaches boiling point.
- Keep a close eye on the Moka pot; the brewing process can happen quickly.
- Serve Your Coffee:
- Once the upper pot is full, remove the Moka pot from the burner and turn off the stove.
- Your coffee is ready to serve!
Moka Pot Tips:
- Stay in the Room: Always be present while brewing to avoid leaving it unattended.
- Coffee Choice: Moka pots produce strong, espresso-like coffee. Choose dark roast beans for a classic espresso taste.
- Stove Compatibility: Most Moka pots work with gas and electric burners. For induction stoves, consider a specially designed Moka pot.
- Water Quality: Use filtered water (not distilled) to prevent mineral buildup.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean your Moka pot to maintain its performance.
